The purpose of the Norton Tankard Competition" is to enable Club members to put together a panel of either prints or slides, where the photographs may be successfully viewed as a group rather than individually.

Panels may be either Pictorial or Applied, where the following simple definitions are used:

Pictorial

Without benefit of titles, or descriptive information, no knowledge of the subject matter is required for the pictures to be viewed successfully.

Applied

The pictures provide the viewer with information on the chosen subject, usually with the aid of titles or written descriptions.

It is hoped that this Competition will provide members with an insight into the means of obtaining Royal Photographic Society Distinctions, by the submission of practical work.
